My tree isn’t particularly large, unique or beautiful, but it does have a special place in my heart. For 18 years I’ve been waking up and the first thing I see when I open my blinds is this Rowan tree. It’s branches and leaves hide the houses opposite, breaking up the urban background whilst hosting a wide variety of birds for me to listen to and watch. In the spring months it becomes covered in bright red berries which the blackbirds stuff themselves with, and any berries which they miss end up falling to the garden below, forming a carpet of red amongst the flowers. One year we decided to put a bird box in the tree with a camera inside it and ended up following a blue-tit couple in their struggles to fledge chicks. Without the tree and what it provides, they would not have succeeded. So whilst it is not really outstanding in any way, it is special to me and I can’t imagine not seeing it outside my bedroom window everyday.
